The CASPAR Team would like to extend a warm welcome and invite you to its training seminar that will take place this January in Frascati

CASPAR FOR THE SCIENTIFIC DOMAIN

January 13th 2009,

European Space Agency – ESRIN, Frascati (Rome)

The seminar will be an excellent and informative example of what is involved in the preservation of Scientific Data. It will present in detail real case studies, with the aim of giving all attendees a better understanding of the main digital preservation issues and challenges when applied to the scientific sector. All those involved in Scientific Data Repositories are faced more and more with the problem of managing an increasing amount of complex Digital Data and more importantly, are faced with the problem of preserving huge amounts of scientific digital data in order to make them available for validation of scientific results and for possible future applications.

The seminar and its materials will be mainly aimed at scientists and researchers from scientific domains such as Physics, Medicine, Biology, Earth Observations, but also relevant commercial organisations with an interest in the preservation of scientific digital data are mostly welcome.

Participants will leave with an awareness of the relevance of preservation in the sector of Scientific Data. Through the presentation of practical experiences, supported by demos and examples tailored to the actual user needs. Participants will also gain a basic knowledge of the OAIS reference model and an understanding of the preservation planning process.

The venue of the seminar is ESRIN, the European Space Agency center in Frascati. ESRIN can be easily reached from the central railway station in Rome (Stazione Termini) with one of the frequent regional trains. There is a stop just in ESRIN.
